It seems like things just aren't slowing down at school at all (it doesn't help that Soccer and my brother's wedding are both this week as well). Anyways, things are wrapping up in the intro units of most of our classes.
Math A30 - the first unit will wrap up early next week and we have our first exam on Thurs., Sept. 17. After that we will move into Data Analysis, which has the students working with data to create box and whisker plots. It will be a very short unit.
Math C30 - our first exam is about 1.5 weeks away. We only have one more conic to learn, but we have a few more sections to cover before we will review for the exam. The "fun" artsy math assignment was handed out today. It is due Tuesday, Sept. 22. I hope students find it fun and challenging. I am still very impressed with everyone's work ethic.
Oh yea! This week we did a cooperative learning activity and some in the class couldn't stand not being spoonfed the method, but the groups ended up doing really really well!
Physics 20 -this unit is getting pretty boring. Review begins tomorrow and leads to an exam next Wednesday, Sept 16. The next chapter will be on heat. It will also not feature much hands-on work, but it has a lot of day to day concepts to explore. Make sure you are working on the "Why The Fizz?" assignment! I expect work that looks like it was done over 3 weeks by a grade 11 student, not one night by a grade 6er!
Physics 30 - we are really getting into the bulk of the first chapter now. We will be doing a lot more practice problems over the next week. Position-time graphs and velocity-time graphs are going to be the major concept over the next few classes and then we will be doing a lot of work with acceleration. We should expect an exam in about 1.5 weeks. Things are starting to settle in and students are working well. One thing to note is that students should make sure that they are copying all of the examples, your printed notes don't have everything!
Math 10 - this class is still having major focus issues. I will take part of that blame. We just need to keep in mind that our number one goal is achievement. We are all tired, but we need to focus as if it were 10 AM. We will be finishing up our first chapter (which has us solving lots of equations) over the next week. An exam is about a week away.
The next chapter will be a review of polynomials. I will spice it up by working with Algebra Tiles.
Thanks for stopping by!
