First (HOT) Week

Well, the first week has wrapped up. Things have gone quite well, for the most part. I will break down each class:

Math A30 - we have been working on Solving Systems of Linear Equations. Basically it means finding where lines cross. Our whole first unit is on this concept. We have been moving a bit slower than we need to be moving, but next week we will get on track. The students are working hard in class, so I am impressed.

Math C30 - this class is a great group! We started with the Conics chapter, which deals with graphing circles, parabolas, and a few other shapes. I am very impressed with everyone's math abilities and work ethic - and everyone helps each other out too. Just great. This chapter will take us about another two weeks - there will be a fun but hard assignment where we will make "art" by using conics. Circle quiz on Tuesday morning, by the way!

Phys 20 - We have had a lot of fun. We are just getting our head around some physics ideas and are working on different math skills we will need for physics. We have had a couple of things handed in already. Our one assignment, which involved asking a science question based on the videos we watched and then researching the answer, was due today. A number of students were not done - this is a not a very good way to start the year. We need to tighten that up.
The Why the Fizz? assignment, which will be done all on your own time will be due on Sept. 29. We will talk more about it on Tuesday.

Phys 30 -The week seemed to fly by. We just have so much to do! We reviewed our math skills for physics and are now looking at motion. We have an assignment to bring a toy and describe the physics of the toy. Students will be presenting over the next month and a bit - remember your presentation date! Next week we will really be getting more into the course and will be using our textbooks on a daily basis. Things will get harder and I hope everyone is ready to work. This week has me concerned about some students because of their lack of focus in class - but I know the heat in the room didn't help.

Math 10 - I know that you want to have fun in class - but math is our first order of business! This classroom is boiling by 2:30 and the students are pretty riled up, but we do need to work on staying focused. This will be our goal over the next week. So far everyone seems to be doing pretty well. We are working on a review of basic operations and algebra skills right now. We are moving at a great pace. The review of past skills will continue for a lot of the month.
Oh, by the way, the common denominator of 6, 7, and 15 isn't needed when you are multiplying! Just look for something to reduce. You only need a common denominator for adding/subtracting.

Have a great weekend everyone and I will see you for a short week next week. Hopefully the temperature drops a bit.
